Charles Pettee has been delighting audiences with a tasty blend of original and traditional American folk, bluegrass, and Celtic music seasoned at more than 4,000 performances throughout the US, Canada, and Europe for over 25 years, all the while offering private guitar lessons for all ages and skill levels. His experience as a performer, certified NC Arts Council Teaching Artist, parent, and life-long lover of music make him an inspiring and enthusiastic guide to one of the best pasttimes there is -- playing the guitar!
“As an adult learner and “late – comer” to the guitar, I’ve found Charles to be a patient and well-experienced teacher. He draws from a great background as a performer and composer as well as weaving in just the right amount of music theory to make the guitar come alive for students. Charles has the ability and willingness to help students at all levels and knows just how to blend new lesson material with old to give students a sense of accomplishment while also providing motivation for progress toward better playing skills. With a group of students under his direction and strong ties to the community, Charles has the resources to help students as solo guitarists and make introductions that can lead students to ensemble and small group opportunities to make music.“
Charles Pettee's program as part of the MUSE Machine performances is just the kind of experience we want for our students. He hooked us right in with an upbeat guitar song, followed by background info and Q & A, invitations to clap along, using tempo and dynamic variation to lead the student response. He taught us how to sing two responses in "Cluck Old Hen" and led right on into harmonica, mandolin and banjo. It was a great musical and educational 45 minute program that left us wanting more. . . . THANK YOU!! -- June Sereque, Woodland Heights Elementary
